Our internship program is over for the year; here’s what one participant got out of it.
At the beginning of summer we posted about our summer intern program, and how the students we recruit are a source for fresh perspectives regarding the work we do here at SSCS. Now that summer is coming to an end—and along with it this year’s program—we caught up with one participant and asked her to write a few words on the experience. She responded with the following:
“The summer I’ve spent at SSCS has brought me an incredible amount of insight regarding the convenience store industry. Not only did I learn many facts about the industry, but I got to experience first-hand the professionalism that exists throughout it. In the process I learned how to comfortably navigate through the business and those businesses related to it.
“While it was great to have a structured opportunity in my internship to help figure that all out, by far the best part of my experience was having as much creative room as I did. I was working with the SSCS sales and marketing teams and my ideas were more than welcomed; they were encouraged.
“At first, I was a bit nervous to share my opinions and designs, but I quickly grew out of this thanks to my supportive managers. They truly wanted to know what I had to bring to the table. Through their feedback and coaching, I learned a lot and am excited to see where my new skills and enhanced understanding of professionalism will take me. I am very thankful to SSCS for giving me such an extraordinary summer experience.”
Though it’s sad to see our student contributors leave, we’ll continue to benefit from their energy, enthusiasm, and imagination. It’s exciting to see interns begin to create their own professional legacy here at SSCS. Their contributions are not only appreciated, but will help us move forward in a market that seems to change almost daily. We look forward to seeing what next summer’s participants will bring to the table!
