The Cornhole Connection…and Other SSCS News

The game is becoming the newest SSCS tradition…but wait, there’s more…

Our semi-annual company meeting is happening today and tomorrow. The event convenes SSCS professionals from all corners of the country to share news, engage in cross-training, view new product demos, chow down on good food, and in general, engage in a little team building and camaraderie.

We’ve written about our get-togethers in the past—we’ve had a lot of them in our over 40 years of existence—but this past year a new wrinkle was added in the form of a stirring competition to get the juices flowing and bring us together in the spirit of good sportsmanship. Here’s the “uniform” of one of our contestants, which provides a hint:

Yes, that’s right. Our company get-togethers are now graced with the spirited ongoing competition in the form of a cornhole tournament. We have brackets and everything. And if that isn’t enough to convince you we’re serious about it, we even have an umpire, who, as you can see, will not suffer any nonsense during play:

In case you are wondering what cornhole is, players take turns throwing bags filled with corn kernels at a raised platform with a hole in it. The goal of the game is to toss the bags into the hole or land them on the platform to score points. Players form teams of two (the SSCS format) or individually, with the scoring system varying based on specific rules. It’s pretty easy to learn. Attaining skill, however, is harder than it looks.

The exact origins of cornhole are unclear, but it is believed to have originated in the Midwest region of the United States, particularly in Ohio and Kentucky, in the late 19th or early 20th century. The game was originally played with burlap bags filled with corn kernels, hence the name “cornhole.” Over time, the game evolved and became more popular, with players using wooden platforms with a hole in them instead of simple pits dug into the ground.

Cornhole gained popularity in the 1970s and 1980s in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, where it became a staple at local bars and tailgates. It eventually spread to other parts of the country and has since become a widely played and loved game at social gatherings, picnics, and events. Like our company meeting!

Besides our company get-together, we have other news to share. It centers around our Lottery Management software. First of all, SSCS users can log into our portal and access a complete help system covering every aspect of the app. If our customers need more, the portal also features a video explaining the system, giving them a choice of learning tools. It is also worth mentioning that our list of state coverage for the Lottery App is growing on a monthly basis, as shown at the bottom of this page.

Well, that’s it for this week, but just remember, if you have any questions about SSCS products and services (cornhole technique probably not included), you can always give us a call at (800) 927-7727.
