Transaction Analysis Extends AI Integration

The ability to interpret sales patterns at the POS just got supercharged.

Some months back the SSCS Blog posted a note about the integration of AI into one of our popular Transaction Analysis (TA) reports, Store Stats. Now we’ve added it to TA’s Item Totals Comparison report.

All reports that are part of the TA software analyze some aspect of the consistently updated stream of data from the POS. They provide users a multi-dimensional view of that information, with the controls to slice and dice reporting to uncover business insights in specific areas of concern.

The integration of AI into TA supercharges this process while reducing user effort. What it provides is a well-organized baseline of analysis for the set of POS sales values presented by TA. A knowledgeable c-store owner can then take this feedback and apply their own expertise and perspective to it. The end result is the ability to assess and address potentially troublesome trends before they can create a bigger problem.

In the case of the Item Totals report, the emphasis is, indeed, on items, but more accurately on patterns of item sales. What’s being bought with what. The effectiveness of mix-and-match and combo promotions. How effective (or not) your price points are with customers over time. And that’s just a handful of examples.

Further clarity on what AI provides is represented by this actual example:

AI Report

  1. When you are in Transaction Analysis, click Item Totals in the side bar to display the report.
  2. Enter the criteria you want to shape your report and click Submit.
  3. When the screen fills with POS records, click the “Comparative” tab.
  4. When the “Comparative” tab displays, click Summarize.
  5. The AI module will then formulate a report organized into insights and recommendations, and display it on screen.
  6. Click Print to print the report.
  7. Click OK to put the Summary window away.

That’s all there is to it.

As you can see from the above image, Item Totals with AI functions much like well-informed assistant, preparing item sales data suggesting its significance, and pointing out metrics that are both encouraging and of concern. With that basic work done, an operator can spend more time using their expertise to look beyond the surface of store transactions to uncover and review unusual or corner cases.

AI integration with Transaction Analysis makes the software’s reporting all that much better. If you want to know more about Transaction Analysis reports integrated with AI, give us a call at (800) 927-7277.
