The Industry Remembers

Here are just a few of the ways the industry is recognizing U.S. veterans in 2017.

The retail petroleum industry has a giving nature and a big heart. Certain holidays and occasions especially bring it out.

Like Veterans Day.

Officially celebrated on Saturday, November 11, convenience stores and gas stations all across the country have found a variety of interesting ways to demonstrate their support for the contributions of those who served in the our armed forces. Here is a short list, curated by SSCS.

• SSCS Corporate Customer Circle K is offering veterans a free Polar Pop on November 11 through the the Veterans Day Deal that’s part of the Circle K mobile app.
• Wawa will provide veterans a free coffee of any size, all day Saturday.
• Stewart’s Shops is offering 50 cent ice cream cones for EVERYONE on Veterans Day.
• On November 11, Sheetz will provide all veterans and current servicepersons a free 6″ turkey sub and regular fountain drink. In addition, locations with a car wash will offer them free to veterans.
• Participating stores of ROCS Local Market in West Virginia will make free coffee and breakfast sandwiches available to veterans.
• Kroger’s is donating $3.2 million to the USO as part of an ongoing partnership and support of veterans, service members, and their families.
• You can go over to QuikTrip’s Facebook page and post thanks for a veteran’s service.
• Pilot Flying J is donating a portion of its proceeds, up to $25,000, from the sale of 20 and 24 ounce coffee refills on Veterans Day to Wreaths Across America, which utilizes volunteers to lay wreaths on veterans’ graves in remembrance of their service.
• Dave Hanson is a third-generation veteran and a district manager at Love’s Travel Stops. He reflects on his experiences serving the country in this heartfelt piece.

Most everyone knows at least one veteran, and many of us have friends and family that served. If you haven’t already, make sure you take the opportunity this weekend to tell them how much you appreciate their service on behalf of the U.S.A.
